What about fly fishing while floating down a breathtaking river, the Savegre River basin, in the Costa Rican Central Pacific coast, was recognized as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

Your expert fly fishing guide will guide you down pristine jungle rivers, where  the predominant species in these waters is the Machaca which is a favorite for its aggressive nature when feeding on or near the surface, and for its acrobatics. Roncador (Pacific Grunt), Mojarra, Guavina, and Tepe-Machin are common to this area, later on the rivers reach the lowlands they are bigger, wider and calmer and are home to an interesting mix of species. we can find saltwater species like Snook and Cubera Snapper cruising in the area.

Because of higher water levels and whitewater conditions during the rainy months in the mountains, these trips are only available from December to May and then depending on the weather through August.

.

Cast towards the shoreline as you float down the river or find a spot to get out and wade or cast from the shore. Great for novice fly fisherman, experts and someone just wanting to learn how to fly fish!

Savegre Biosphere Reserve extends all the way through 313,000 hectares and houses over 54% of bird species in Costa Rica.

Whitewater sections of river do exist on some of these trips so clients need to be prepared for all conditions. Due to remote locations and lack of manpower in the wilderness clients may be asked to assist with physical tasks like loading and unloading boats.

FISHING LICENSE

Costa Rica requires that all anglers purchase and carry a valid Costa Rica fishing license. These can be bought online or on the day of fishing and usually cost around $15 USD (this is subject to change). Fishing licenses may be provided with all-inclusive Costa Rica fishing packages, although if in doubt it is always best to check with your captain before your trip.
